Whilst the main stream rurvival horror genre has experienced a bit of a slump in recent years, the core fans of the Silent Hill series stand strong in the face of generic first person shooter clones and boring modern day titles like Call of Duty and Battlefield. Silent Hill has been compared many times to other Survival Horror titles such as Resident Evil and Alone in the dark, however this is a lazy comparision as Silent Hill is far, far more than this, it is the intellectual seperior to these titles. If you are a fan of the series as you no doubt have guessed I am, then you will probablly already know that this was the first installment of the now popular Silent Hill franchise, this title original came out for the Sony PlayStation in North America in 1999 and has been leaving people genuinely frightened ever since, well, frightened is a bit of an oversimplification as a mix match of emotions are felt, an almost rainbow of emotions from gut-wrenching anticipation to downright hand trembling, leaving you unable to turn away from the television leaving you with a feeling of constant dread.

I often strugle to find an exact term when describing Silent Hil as conventional language lacks the ability to accuaretly sum up this series.
